Annika Reiss Makes Season Debut

Everson - The warmest day of the track season couldn't have come at a better time in Whatcom County. Many athletes were guzzling water and dumping on each other to stay hydrated throughout the entire meet. Some were effected by the conditions, but Bellingham's Annika Reiss showed no fear.

After suffering an offseason injury, that kept her out of competition for 2 months, the junior star returned to the oval office yesterday and won the girl's 3200 meter race in a time of 11:57.19 yesterday at Nooksack Valley High School against Meridian and Nooksack.

Reiss finished 2nd in the 2A Cross Country State Championships last fall and was named the Northwest Conference Girl's Cross Country Runner of the Year. In her sophomore track season, she placed 2nd in the 3200 and 1st in the 1600 at the 2A Track and Field State Championships.

Grace Much, teammate of Reiss, won the girl's 800 meter race in a season best time, 2:29.04. Kaelyn Devaney finished in 2nd with a time of 2:39.02.

Meridian's Ashlee Van Den Top won the 1600 in 5:37.77, a season best for her as she leads the Lady Trojans. Nooksack's Brooke DeBeeld place 2nd with a time of 5:54.62.

In the boy's meet, Bellingham's Cade Brown and Timothy Crabtree were the winners for the Red Raiders. Brown won the 1600 in 4:38.66, while Crabtree ran a personal best time of 2:08.79 to win the 800.

Meridian's Abbas Theophilus and Jaskaran Dhatt went 1-2 in the 3200 meter race as they ran 10:48.44 and 10:49.51. Dhatt also had a 2nd place finish in the 1600 running 4:44.57.
