UW’s Gardner on to Final in 3000 Steeplechase

Gardner, a graduate of Mead High School, ran 8:41.48 in heat 2 finishing 3rd. This 3 seconds off his personal best. He is Washington’s first participant in this NCAA final since 2008.


The only final event of the day was the 10,000 meter men’s final with Michigan’s Ben Flanagan running 28:34.53 for the win.

Former Lake Washington High School runner Dillon Maggard placed 3rd with a time of 28:38.96, a 23 second drop from his previous best. Maggard runs for the Utah State Aggies.


While in high school, Maggard placed 7th in the Boy’s 800 meter 2A state final and 16th in the cross country 2A state meet his senior year.


Maggard returns to the track Saturday in the final of the Men’s 5000 meter race.


In the Men‘s 800 Meter prelim, Mississippi State‘s Dejon Devroe placed 14th with a time of 1:48.93. Devroe graduated from Oak Harbor High School in 2015. As a senior at Oak Harbor, Devroe won the class 3A state title in the 800 meter.


Washington State Cougar Chandler Teigen ran in the men’s 1500 prelim running 3:56. Teigen ran for Asotin High School, a small 2B school in eastern Washington.
