Multiple Come-from-Behind Wins at Christian School Invite

Lynden, WA - Both the boy's and girl's meets showed very good races at the Christian School Invite at Lynden Christian High School featuring six schools from the 1B and 1A levels.

Cedar Park Christian's Fleurette Worrell ran a personal best 6:13.84 in the girl's 1,600 meter by beating Mount Vernon Christian's Maddy Nielsen, who also ran personal best time of 6:17.44.


Worrell trailed in third place for the majority of the race till the final 200 meters where she appeared to have an extra gear that Nielsen couldn't respond too.


Lynden Christian's Brianna Veenstra was third running a season best time of 6:21.94.

After falling behind to fifth place for the first 400 meters, Lynden Christian's Simone Veltkamp won the girl's 800 meter with a personal best time of 2:39.74 after surging the final 100 to win the race.


This is Veltkamp's first high school track win in an individual race and the first 800 she has ever won.


Bellevue Christian's Britta Reumann and Evelyn Nienaber were second and third for the Vikings running 2:42.14 and 2:43.44. Nienaber's time is a personal best.


Veltkamp's teammate Maya Ewing also won her first high school race running a personal best 12:50.24 in the girl's 3,200 meter.


Mount Vernon Christian's Nielson got another second place finish in the 3,200 running 14:18.84. Shoreline Christian's Geneva Boersema was third in a season best time of 14:51.94.


On the boy's side, Johnathan Brown of Mount Vernon Christian ran a season best 4:53.54 to win the 1,600.


Bellevue Christian's Luke Foisset ran 5:18.66, a personal best, to place second and Brown's teammate Alexander Hoksbergen ran 5:19.84 for third place, also a personal best.


Bellevue Christian's Will Wetter ran a personal best 2:19.54 in a very late surge for the last 75 meters in the 800 to win by one second over Mount Vernon Christian's Devin Van Zanten.


Wetter was the leader of the second group behind the first place runner for 600 meters.


Van Zanten ran a personal best 2:20.04 for second, and Grace Academy's Michael Starkweather ran a season best 2:20.44 for third.


Mount Vernon Christian's Austin Lazar made one of the biggest comebacks of the evening after trailing by 40 meters on the final lap of the 3,200 before passing Shoreline Christian's Peter Boersma the last 100 meters.

Lazar, who ran 10:47.14 for the win, fell behind Boersma going onto lap eight as if he had no chance of catching up at all.


Boersma lost by .6 tenths of a second running 10:47.84, which is a season best time for him.


Mount Vernon Christian's Brown placed third running 11:05.34 for another top three finish of the day.
