Arlington Boys Roll Past WESCO Opponents

ARLINGTON - With six runners finishing in the top 10, the No. 4 ranked 3A team, the Arlington boys, dominated the competition yesterday, September 11, to start their 2019 season scoring 29 points for a first place team finish in a WESCO Conference meet versus six other schools at River Meadows Park.

Brandon Moore was second and Chance Pearston was third overall running times of 10:11 and 10:21 for the 3,200 meter race to help the Eagles to a 38 point victory over Lake Stevens, who finished second with 61 points.


Other top Eagles were Vincent Loftis (10:27), Ryan Barene (10:30), and Isaiah Lowry (10:43) taking fifth through seventh and Ryan Roshton (10:48) placing 10th.


Mountlake Terrace's Alex Williams, last years district 1 & 2 cross country champion and top seven 2A runner to watch this season, won the short race in a time of 10:05.


Helping Lake Stevens to a second place finish were Owen Flin placing third running 10:21, and Jacob Broadbent and Trey Roe placing seventh and ninth in 10:43 and 10:45.


Snohomish's Dylan Thede (10th, 10:48), Stanwood's Jason Khoury (15th, 10:53) Marysville Getchell's Oliver Schwab (17th, 10:58), and Shorecrest's Luke Schmidt (11:19) were their schools top runners.


The post-Taylor Roe era began for Lake Stevens on a positive note in the girls race as the Vikings defeated Marysville Getchell by four points, 49-53.


Taking third overall was Ashley Reek running 12:27 as the Vikings top runner. Also in the top 10 from Lake Stevens finishing sixth through eighth were Abigail Hill (12:40), Emma Owen (12:56), and Ella Edens (12:59).


3A fifth ranked Snohomish's Ellie Baxter won in a time of 11:46 and led the Panthers to a fourth place finish.


Second place Marysville Getchell top runners were Jasmine Nguyen and Julia Rea finishing second and fourth running 11:52 and 12:33.


Wrapping up the top 10 were eighth ranked 3A Arlington's Anne Louise Fernandez (12:38) and Tailer Cochran (13:02) placing fifth and ninth and Stanwood's Charlotte Bentz (13:05) placing 10th.


Jolie Davison of Mountlake Terrace ran 13:34 for 16th place and Naomi Kolmer of Shorecrest ran 14:16 for 29th place.


What's Next?


Arlington, Marysville Getchell, and Mountlake Terrace travel to Bellingham for the Sehome Invite this Saturday. Snohomish will have a conference meet next Wednesday, and Lake Stevens, Stanwood, and Shorecrest will run at the South Whidbey Invite next Saturday.
