6 Meridian Trojans On Their Way To Cheney

Shoreline - The Meridian Trojans boy's and girl's distance teams are sending a total of 6 runners to the 1A State Track and Field at Eastern Washington University next week.


In the 800, Jensen Ellars placed 2nd in the boy's race with a personal best time of 1:59.69 and in the girl's race, Ashlee Van Den Top placed 6th but met the qualifying time (2:24.07) running 2:22.41.


All 8 girl's in the 800 final will advance to the state meet next week because they all met the qualifying time.


The Meridian boy's 3200 runners all ran under the qualifying time (10:01.89) to also advance to the state meet next week. Nathan Schneider ran 9:53.57, Kenny Barnes ran 9:55.24, Jaskaran Dhatt ran 9:55.71, and Abbas Theophilus ran 9:56.40. All four times are personal bests for the 4 runners.


Another 8 runners from the boy's 3200 race will advance to the state meet as well because they too met the qualifying time.


Lynden Christian's Eric Steiger won the 3200 beating Ethan Widlansky of Bush running 9:44.45. Teammates Brooks DeWaard placed 3rd with a time of 9:53.14 to make his way to the state meet as well.


Nooksack's Alyce Harlan was the only distance runner from the Pioneers to qualify for the state meet finishing in 6th in the girl's 3200 running a time of 11:27.32. The qualifying time was 11:32.63.


Mount Baker's Peter Adams ran a personal best time of 2:00.59 in the 800, but unfortunately missed the auto-qualifying time by .01 tenths of a second.


The Nooksack boy's top runner of the day was senior Arlin Holder as he a ran a personal best time of 10:23.31 in the 3200 race.


The 1A State Track and Field Championships begins next Thursday and runs through Saturday at Eastern Washington University.
